Styling bookshelves

You can tell so much about a person simply by glancing at their bookshelves.
As I look back at mine through the years, here are some things I've learnt on styling them:

Pattern

Find a pattern and organise your shelves by size, colour or type. It makes sorting and adding more books super easy over time.

Make it interesting

Use it to display your travel collections and curios. There is no better place in your house.

Mix it up

Different shapes and sizes, place some horizontally and some vertically to create different layers of interest.

Add something living.

Plants or a fishbowl( if you're into such things!)

Bring in some light

Don't forget to light it. Add lamps or conceal lighting - on or in the shelves.

Have fun!

I use other shelves in my house to display plants. They're one of the coolest places to showcase your collections (of anything!) (now imagines a bookshelf full of vintage cups! - I have a problem!)
